Throughout my time at Carpenter Marty Transportation, I have only had positive experiences. Prior to the start of my internship, I was included in extracurricular activities and already felt like part of the team. After my first day in the office, I couldn’t imagine wanting to work anywhere else. Everyone was welcoming and supportive, which made it so much easier to jump right into learning. I joined the company’s softball league team, which gave me the opportunity to get to know more people really well while also having fun.
I began working on projects the first day of my internship. This really set Carpenter Marty apart from my previous internships, which tended to direct me toward busy work. I was nervous at first, but it quickly became very enjoyable because of how willing everyone was to answer my questions and help. Interns get the opportunity to work with each group, which was beneficial in getting to know everyone individually and gaining familiarization for each group.
Before my internship, I was convinced my focus would be on roadway projects or bridges following graduation because I tended to favor those courses more while in school. I got real world experience working on both roadway and bridge projects while at Carpenter Marty Transportation and can confidently say I want to pursue a focus on bridge design following graduation.
Everyone at CM Transportation is supportive of a work-life balance. I was also balancing full-time summer classes and military obligations during my internship. I received so much support from my supervisors which was a huge factor in my success. Overall, I have learned so much and gained real-world experience at Carpenter Marty Transportation. I couldn’t recommend a better company to work for.
