Home Road & Steitz Road Intersection Improvements
The Delaware County Engineer’s Office selected Carpenter Marty Transportation to provide engineering study and design services for this intersection improvement project. The project included an initial feasibility study to provide guidance on necessary improvements within the project area. This study included collection of traffic data and the development of alternatives. Alternatives included a roundabout and signalized intersection. Capacity analysis was performed on each alternative in order to make recommendations to reach acceptable levels of service. The analysis showed that a two lane roundabout would be necessary in the east/west direction, which was not desirable given the right-of-way constraints in the area. The signalized intersection was selected as the preferred alternative.
Carpenter Marty Transportation completed detail design plans based upon the selected preferred alternative which took Home Road from two lanes to five lanes and Steitz Road from two lanes to three lanes. The intersection design included a mast arm traffic signal and additional turn lanes. In addition to traffic and roadway services, Carpenter Marty Transportation also provided surveying services, drainage analysis, storm sewer design, maintenance of traffic details, lighting plan design, traffic control including pavement markings and signage, and right-of-way design.
