Shane is the Operations Manager in our Columbus office. Ever since Shane started elementary school, he had always taken an interest in math and building projects. When Shane got to high school, he decided he would pursue a career in engineering, but it wasn’t until his freshman year of college that he chose civil engineering. Shane said, “I wasn’t sure which discipline to study, so I asked around and found out civil was the easiest.” After Shane graduated from college the next decision he needed to make was what kind of civil engineer he wanted to be. “I really wanted to do something with designing baseball or football stadiums, but I soon realized those kinds of jobs are not common.” Prior to graduating college Shane interviewed for an entry level bridge position with the owners of CM. 18+ years later he is still working with them.

Advise for Engineering Students

“There are many different paths of civil engineering out there to choose from. I recommend doing an internship early on in your college career to see what path fits you the best. This gives you the opportunity to learn what you are interested in, but most importantly, what you are not interested in. I’ve found that engineering has been rewarding career to have. There’s something satisfying about seeing a set of bridge plans that you helped develop and see them turn into a real-life creation”.

Favorite Project

“One of my favorite projects is the Orange Road Bridge in Delaware County because it is close to where I grew up!” Shane worked on this project from start to finish and now he gets to drive past it every time he goes home to visit family.

Why CM

“Some of my co-workers and I have been able to work together for 18+ years. I consider them to be friends, not just people I work with.” Shane also mentioned how the owners at CM, Kevin and Bill, treat all their employees as an extended part of their family and not just another employee.

Fun Facts

Shane has owned racehorses for the last 12 years at the Delaware County Fairgrounds. Shane’s dad and uncle grew up going to races and their dream was to always own one someday. An opportunity arose and they were able to buy their first ever racehorse, and have owned around 20 horses since. Shane’s favorite horse to date is called “Forever Lover” pictured on the right. This horse was his favorite because she won him the most money.

Another fun fact about Shane is that he got a hole-in-one. This happened at the Highland County Engineer Golf Outing in 2016!
