WELCOME TO COMMA DESIGNWORKS,

Comma Designworks and Carpenter Marty Transportation value the collaboration and cross pollination between the engineering and architectural practices. In 2020, Carpenter Marty Transportation leadership recognized an opportunity to expand on their industry leading expertise in bridge, roadway, site design, traffic, and survey services to add architectural services in order to better serve the wide variety of established clients and to forge new relationships in the architectural space.

Through conversations about what this addition could mean both for Carpenter Marty Transportation and the new architectural clientele, the “Comma” name was born to represent the commitment of Carpenter Marty Transportation to be constant learners, growers, and never stop adding on to what we know.

Comma Designworks is led by Director Eric McGinnis, AIA, who established the department in Nashville, Tennessee. Since then, Comma Designworks and Carpenter Marty Transportation continue to identify opportunities to support each other across multiple disciplines and to support clients with service offerings that meet the needs of any development.

The Architectural Services team operates out of Nashville and was created in 2020 as Comma Designworks, a department of Carpenter Marty Transportation, specializing in commercial design and documentation. Our staff of architects and designers have experience across a multitude of building and project types including mixed-use, multifamily, hospitality, townhome developments, retail, office, education, industrial reuse, and historic restoration.

Comma Designworks has worked for clients in the public realm, private development, non-profit organizations, small business owners, and entrepreneurs.  We love the ability to work on projects that have their own requirements and parameters, and believe that our role as designers requires us to be creative problem solvers in pursuit of the client’s ultimate goal.

Our studio utilizes the latest modeling and rendering software including Autodesk Revit, BIM360, Lumion, Cloud Construction Software, and TestFit. The experience of our team and our dedication to industry leading technology allows us to provide architectural services on projects of a wide variety of scales with a focus on thorough documentation, clear and constant communication, and early coordination with our consultant team.
