As a part of a statewide safety study program, Carpenter Marty Transportation was tasked with performing a safety study at the intersection of Brookpark Road (SR 17) and Ridge Road. The intersection is ranked #51 on the ODOT Highway Safety Improvement Program Urban Intersection Safety Priority list. The project area borders the cities of Brooklyn, Cleveland, and Parma. The study analyzed existing safety conditions and determined potential countermeasures to reduce crash frequency and congestion. An overview of safety issues and possible causes was completed, along with an analysis of project area improvements (including land use, property access, and roadway conditions). A capacity analysis was performed and clearance intervals were reviewed for existing conditions and each proposed countermeasure. 77 crashes were analyzed, including classifications by location and type. Finally, countermeasures were identified and a benefit-cost analysis was provided.
