Carpenter Marty Transportation provided engineering design services for this safety improvement project. The project eliminated an existing at-grade crossing on US 35 by constructing a two-span prestressed concrete beam bridge over existing US 35. CR 9 was realigned and Acy Avenue and Industry Drive were relocated. A modern single-lane roundabout was designed for the existing McCarty Lane & Acy Avenue intersection. The roundabout was the first roundabout constructed in ODOT District 9 and was designed to accommodate a very high percentage of truck traffic coming to and from US 35. The project also involved access management, lighting design, pavement design, drainage design, and other minor improvements. Traffic was maintained by various schemes throughout construction. Carpenter Marty Transportation assisted in obtaining an aesthetic grant for the project which allowed for the inclusion of “bas relief” images on the bridge abutments, decorative bridge railing, form-lined parapets, and decorative monument walls.
