This project involved realignment of SR 104 (Jackson Pike) and the elimination of the braided ramps at the IR 71 interchange south of Frank Road. Significant changes in vertical and horizontal alignment was required on SR 104 to direct traffic away from the braided ramp to a new signalized intersection with Frank Road. The project also included widening and full-depth concrete pavement replacement along 0.11 miles of SR 104 (Frank Road) east of IR 71. The project required coordination with the FRA-71-9.74 (PID No. 93497) major rehabilitation project on mainline IR 71 as portions of this intersection were reconstructed with that contract. The project area is located in a designated FEMA special flood hazard area which required design considerations to ensure that the proposed work did not create additional flooding concerns during a severe storm event.
